Two Surgeries at the Same Time with Robotic Surgery
Two surgeries were performed simultaneously with robotic surgery technology at Medical Point Hospital. Colon cancer surgery was performed by the general surgery team and kidney surgery was performed by the urology department.
Another first was achieved at IUE Medical Point Hospital, which continues to provide healing to its patients with robotic surgery technology. Tuncay Andiç, who applied to IUE Medical Point Hospital, was found to have colon cancer, and the examinations revealed that he also had a tumor in his left kidney. Andiç regained his health with the joint work of both general surgery and urology departments using robotic surgery technology. Andiç took his place in the records as the first patient to be operated on simultaneously with robotic surgery at IUE Medical Point Hospital.
Tayfun Yoldaş from the Department of General Surgery, who performed Andiç’s colon cancer surgery, said, “Our patient applied to us with complaints of bleeding in the last part of the intestine. During our examinations, we found a tumor at the end of the patient’s large intestine (rectum) and a tumor in his kidney. After the chemotherapy process, we had to perform surgery. The surgery was performed. We performed it using robotic surgery with our urology team. In this surgery, both the patient and ourselves benefited from the benefits of robotic surgery. Afterwards, we performed the surgery with less blood loss. “The process was also faster,” he said.
Prof. from the Department of Urology, who operated on the tumor in Andiç’s kidney. Dr. Gökhan Koç said, “Our patient had a large intestine tumor. He had chemotherapy. Afterwards, we decided to treat the tumor, which was detected in his left kidney during a rectum surgery planned by the general surgery department, with robotic surgery in the same session. We performed the surgery with small holes we opened. If we had used the old method, we would have made a large incision.” “We would have to perform the surgery. Both the patient’s surgery and hospitalization time were shortened. We completely removed his left kidney. We performed two surgeries at the same time in our hospital.”
